I live in Birmingham, Michigan, with my husband Kyle, our son Nathan and our daughter Evelyn. The blog is named for our late dog Pete, a Rhodesian Ridgeback who died in 2014. Late in 2015, we returned to the US after living five years overseas (Seoul, South Korea and Königstein im Taunus, Germany).

Knee High By The Fourth of July

Ever heard that phrase? It's about corn on the cob, my mother's favorite summertime meal (yes, she makes a meal out of it). Apparently, the properly growing corn stalk will be "knee high by the fourth of July," and ready to be enjoyed late in the month.

Anyway, we coasted through the end of June and the 4th of July weekend with a watchful eye on the corn, and here's how we kept ourselves busy, happy and distracted from missing Daddy/Kyle...

Beepa commissioned a deck...
...and a pole barn
Gram gave a June 30 deadline for both projects--whew, just made it!
Matt loves to help with Beepa projects!
Time to see how we've grown
What's the verdict?
A growing boy!

But Who's Counting...?

Me. I am counting.
36 weeks plus two days.

Today marked the beginning of going to the doctor every week from here on out as well as all-things-registering: Rooming preference in the delivery unit, meeting the midwives, reviewing birth plans and feeding decisions and...and...and. All of these are sure signs that we are going to meet Baby C, Junior, sooner rather than later!

All measurements at today's exam and ultrasound (did I mention I really love getting an ultrasound every appointment?!) were on target and the heart beat continues to be strong and steady.

Here were are at 29 weeks:

And at 31 weeks:

At 34 weeks having a little fun with Istagram:

And here we are today, at 36 weeks, two days and 18 hours (but who's counting...):
Pardon my PJ's and no make up

The June Bride

I know, I know...terrible job this summer with postings...but I am here now.

We kicked off the second half of June with a trip back to the US in time for a family wedding. First we had a Crockett get together at Carlos and Kim's lovely home/pool/pond/outdoor living room and kitchen.

Not too sure about the water
Gabe is very sure he loves the water!
Claire and Grandpa cooling off
Mmmmmaaammmmaaa
Nana and Nathan on parade (pool, pond, dock, tractor and back again...over and over! Poor Nana)

Next, Kyle and I attended Megan and Devin's beautiful wedding on White Lake, while Nathan got an early start at the cottage with my family. Megan was a stunning June bride!

Not sure what round this is (you don't have to count when you have preggers/designated driver)

More cocktail hour fun with Kendall and Kim
I love this picture of Laura
I heart weddings

Megan and Devin did something really interesting with their pictures...something called "morning after photos," which are pics of them in their wedding attire--you guessed it--the morning after! No jitters, just happiness. Love these pictures. Credit: Photography by RaeJean

Congrats, Megan and Devin. Your wedding was unique and thoughtful, just like the two of you.

Reunited!

Honey, I'm home!

Now that I am over my jet lag (notice I wrote mine, not ours.  Nathan slept about one hour on the plane, thus pulling an all nighter and pretty much buying into naptime and bedtime when ever we presented them), we can enjoy a day together.

First stop, Königstein Pool for some fun in the sun
With Nate and Kyle off playing in the pool (or sandbox, or giant chess board, or swings, or...), I got a little alone time--felt like Mother's Day!
Next stop, Starbucks.
We are fast becoming fond of the very German way of
enjoying our coffee in a "real" cup and hanging out for a bit.
After a nice home-cooked dinner, we took a walk in the park and showed Nathan
how cool the "big" weeping tree looks from underneath
Yep, we live here. Lucky ducks.
Leaving the fountain behind for some delicious gelato
Reunited and it feels so good!
