I live in Birmingham, Michigan, with my husband Kyle, our son Nathan and our daughter Evelyn. The blog is named for our late dog Pete, a Rhodesian Ridgeback who died in 2014. Late in 2015, we returned to the US after living five years overseas (Seoul, South Korea and Königstein im Taunus, Germany).

The Home Stretch

Well, hi thereI've so much to tell you. But first, let's close the last chapter:

So, not to toot our own horns, but I am really proud of us for making a go of it, one adventure after the next. I look back and feel so thankful and so lucky.

When we said yes to Korea, a big part of me held my breath when we boarded that plane two days after our wedding.  A much smaller part of me was still holding that breath when we moved to Germany. As we touched down in the USA on June 8, I realized that, still, the tiniest part of me was still holding that breath, and I exhaled.

We wore hanbok and dirndl (hard to pull off with boobs, PS).
We ate kimchi and schnitzel. We raised a glass of soju saying Gan Bae and a glass of hefeweizen saying Prost. We had a keun agi deul (large baby son) and eine totter (a daughter). We crossed the DMZ and the Berlin Wall. We learned and grew and never gave up and had more fun than people should be allowed to have.

Landing on that runway in Detroit was my finish line for a race I never even knew I was running. It's so hard to describe, but for me this comes close:

And, you know what's funny/crazy? I would do it all over again!

5...4...3...2...1!

So, remember Evy's first birthday?

That's also the day that we learned we would be repatriating in summer 2015...never let it be said that I can't keep a secret!

So, after 5 years abroad, growing into a family of 4, living in 3 countries and giving birth on 2 different continents, we start the next chapter officially Stateside on July 1.

What. An. Adventure.

It's a Small World After All

As our group was the very, very last group to leave Gutsausschank Baiken Saturday night, my friend Cindy said, "Sorry we stayed so long, the last time we all got together it was in Asia a long time ago!"

A group of Michiganders that met while living in Seoul reuniting at a beautiful winery in the German country side--sometimes I have to giggle at the ridiculousness of it all.

Many of our Seoul friends are scattered (we've collectively lived in Russia twice, India, Vancouver and Germany twice since leaving Seoul) here and there now, and it was awesome to be together again!

The Big Four-Oh!

Hi! It's April now. My computer and I broke (broke being the operative word) up for a bit. Don't ask. We're back.

Anyway, I turned the big four-oh on March 12 and my awesome husband took me to Dublin to celebrate my birthday and St. Patrick's Day!

Not wanting to miss out on cake, we pre-celebrated my big day:

Then it was off to Ireland! We stayed in the middle of it all at the Westbury Dublin where my weekend started out with birthday wishes spelled out in chocolate and just got better from there!

With two littles we made the call not to stand in the (constant and long) queue for the Book of Kells, but we did enjoy Trinity College and many other not-to-miss attractions.

Dublin Zoo, Phoenix Park and The Guinness Storehouse:

Some St. Patrick's Day parade fun before we headed home. I am pretty sure we stopped at the booth that painted marijuana leaves instead of shamrocks ;-P

We made more than one stop at the Disney Store, larger than life Spiderman, Hulk, Captain America, Sven and Anna...what's not to love!?

Yay, Dublin!

PS: Happy birthday, Melissa!
