One of our priorities living (way) over here, is travel. We thought, "When else will we get to see this part of the world?" If Kyle has business in a location that we've not previously visited, we both go and make a long-ish weekend of it.

Switzerland (Zurich northeast region) |
We arrived Thursday night in Zurich and rested up for Kyle's Friday of meetings. While he worked, I found a walking tour of the city's
Old Town or Altstadt and added my own stops for churches and shopping, saving the museums for when Kyle could join me on the weekend.

Zurich is a quaint little town, busy with trams and busses (on which your dog can ride, provided they have a ticket) and I loved it. Every little cobblestone square was more adorable than the last one. I thought, "I want to have lunch/wine/coffee/fun there" with each cafe I passed.

So cute, again! |
I am not a big shopper, nor am I terribly religious, but it was something to browse riverside boutiques for baby items (and chocolate), and feel the baby kick as I sat quietly in the sanctuary of Fraumunster admiring the famous
Marc Chagall stained windows.

More than once during our visit, I noted how Zurich reminded me of Michigan. Maybe it was all the westerners with their latin based, semi-recognizable languages. Maybe it was the lack of shiny, straight black hair; it has been a long time since I have seen blond hair with highlights and a head of funky, hot pink locks. Maybe it was the appreciation of personal space; no one touched me--let alone shoved me--on the tram even once. Maybe it was the weather; cool and gray like Michigan, no sun. Regardless, you know you live far away when
Europe reminds you of home.
Saturday, we headed to Rhine Falls, just outside the city. Although not the ideal season to visit, it was beautiful.

We returned to Zurich and had lunch in one of the picturesque cafes I wandered by the day before and visited Kunsthaus, Zurich's museum of fine and modern art. Then we met fellow GM'ers for dinner who relocated from Seoul to Zurich three weeks earlier. We had time for one more museum--The Swiss National Museum, our favorite of the two--before heading out on Sunday.

It was a great trip, not only because my husband is sweet enough to take me places with him, but because he is also sweet enough to buy me a present on the way.
See, I looked and looked at diaper bags and just didn't find one that I loved (you know me, I need to love my bag). At one point, I said, "If a diaper bag costs that much, I would rather just get the changing insert and get like a Burberry that I will love forever." And that is how very sweet he is. Last December when he came home to announce he'd accepted the promotion to Executive, instead of buying himself a well-deserved congratulatory gift, he promised his wife the diaper bag of Baby C's dreams. We stopped at Burberry before the flight out to pick out my much coveted diaper bag.

Choices, choices |

As Kyle jokes, "Nothing says poopy diaper like Burberry."
:)sbc
Are you sure he didn't say "please don't get any poop on the Burberry honey!"? LOL - no, that was probably just me;)
ReplyDeleteWhat lucky folks you two are. The sights you shared are beautiful and charming. Can't wait to learn about Bali (sp).
