Or, should I write, "Big Nate in a little pond."
We were invited to a BBQ last weekend and Megan and Jamie have a little pond in their garden (yard). Despite several warnings, Nathan persisted in retrieving the latest item to land in the pond. Finally, he fell in. He was very, um, surprised. Our dear hosts provided us with their daughter's cute (more importantly, dry) Nike pants and we happened to have his fleece in the car in case it got cooler. Once he calmed down, he was focused on two things: Keeping his Batman socks on and reporting what he saw in the pond. "Momma, there was a shark in the pond!"

And file this under the category "Small, small world:"
Jamie and Megan are fellow Michigander expats. Jamie was talking about hunting property he recently purchased. When I asked where, he said, "Kind of in the middle of nowhere in northern Michigan. Do you know where Baldwin is? Or M-37?" I smiled at the mention of familiar places, of home. "Yes," I said, "It's my favorite place. I have spent summers on a lake less than ten miles from there since I was ten."
Small world.
